I know I'm not leaving until August, but that is not really as far away as it seems. I'm trying to be proactive about getting ready: thinking of the things I need to buy, making mental packing lists, debating what I should bring (nothing too concrete!). But I did decide to get the blog ready. If all goes as planned, I will be blogging away for the four months I'm in Peru. I wouldn't want you all to get too worried about me. Plus, then I can show everyone all the cool pictures I am planning on taking.
For those of you that haven't herd yet, I'm going to UT in the spring. I applied late (not smart, get going early on those college decisions) and unfortunately only got accepted for the Spring semester. But, this could possibly be one of those best of both worlds situations. I have always wanted to go volunteer somewhere cool and my mom says I will never have another time like this to do it. I guess I'll just have to wait and see!
I picked "To Let Them Help Me" as the name for this blog because every time I volunteer, I learn more from the people I'm a supposed to be "helping" than they learn from me. For four months I am looking forward getting to help others, but I am looking forward even more to letting them help me. Who knows what I will get out of this.
I am attempting to fundraise some for this trip. I have an etsy shop in which I am selling felt food, ruffle socks, and other things I have made. These all make great gifts for birthdays or just because. I will also take the things to Peru with me if your want to give them to those kids! I'm also am fundraising with Mysterium. Here you can buy a very good christian cd. It has songs by the Dominican Sisters, Christine Simpson, and some other very talented people. I would appreciate anyone who supported me in either of these ways!
Thanks!
